The Foster Care Association WA in partnership with the State Government Department for Child Protection responsible for Fostering Services met to initiate planning for this Australia-wide Conference in 2007. It builds on a very successful WA Fostercare Conference that took place in 2005.

A Conference Committee has been formed with representatives including foster carers, government and non-government organisations working in fostercare services; academics and researchers. These representatives meet to give direction to the Conference to ensure that it is relevant to its intended audience and to provide insight into the latest challenges and up to date practices and research that the Conference can highlight.

At the same time a Conference Secretariat was appointed to support the Conference Committee and to help with the planning and organising details for the Conference.
